Frequently asked questions.
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a person before, during, and shortly after childbirth. Unlike medical staff, doulas focus on the non-medical aspects of childbirth, helping to create a calm and positive birth experience by offering comfort measures, encouragement, and advocacy. They also support the birthing person's partner and family, fostering a supportive environment for everyone involved.
What kind of support does a doula offer?
Doulas offer continuous physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth to help families feel empowered and confident throughout their birth experience. They provide comfort measures, advocate for your wishes, and assist with postpartum adjustment to promote well-being for both parent and baby.
I value advocating for families’ birth preferences, ensuring that their wishes are heard and respected throughout the entire process. Informed consent is so vital to doula work and I strive to empower families to make informed decisions that feel right for them.
What is your background and training?
I have a bachelors in Psychology and I have been trained through a DONA certified training for birth and postpartum doula work and am finalizing my certification as a certified birth doula this year. I also participated in an 8 week doula mentorship program and continue my education often through trainings.
Do you work with all types of births?
Yes, I support for all births whether that be a hospital, home, or birth center birth. Although most families hire doulas with the intention of doing an unmedicated birth, I am there to support through any journey your birth takes you. I have supported woman through medicated, unmedicated, and cesarean births.
Do you take insurance?
Yes! I can take Medi-cal as well as commercial insurances like Kaiser and Anthem Blue Cross. To start the intake process for insurance, go to the website: https://www.growingtogethernetwork.com/doulas-sacramento
Send me a message through my contact page once that is complete, we and can talk through next steps!
What happens if you cannot attend the birth last minute?
Although this is rare, there are situations that may happen that would require me to be unable to attend the birth. If this becomes the case, I have backup doulas ready to help if needed. Introductions can be made prior to the birth so the families are comfortable and aware of all people involved in their support team.
